Billy Burke | – Word of the Week: Proverbs 18:10
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10 KJV)
Too many times after we sin, after we think a bad thought or we stumble, we don’t go to God quickly; we don’t go to Him right away. So often when we hear information that could help us: where to get a better vitamin, where to go to a good service or being invited to a great conference, we tend to procrastinate.
In the Bible it says Lot lingered, even after the angels told him what was going to happen. He didn’t rush out of there like he should have. Lot lingered around and he had to be pulled out of the city.
The reason most people don’t go to God right away after they sin is because they think they have to make things better before they can get right.
The only thing that make you and I right is the blood that was shed on Calvary 2,000 years ago. It’s His righteousness, His light, and His Life. I’m in Him and so are you!
We need to go to God quickly. It’s not what you do for the Lord that matters, it’s what you do for the Lord quickly. That’s why this verse says, “the righteous runneth into it…”
When I realize I thought a bad thought or said a wrong thing, I don’t want to wait a day, two days, or a week. As bad as I may feel, I have the right – the price was paid – to run to God right after I did it!
When you were little and you cut yourself, did you wait a few hours before you cried for mom? No – the moment you saw blood you cried for help. That’s what is in us! When something goes wrong we are to quickly respond.
So often in healing services, God will have a word of knowledge, “Someone is being healed of arthritis” or “Someone here is being healed of cancer.” And it can take someone so long to respond. It could be a pride factor, an “Is this for real?” factor, or “I’m going to wait for someone else” factor – don’t wait for anybody else! The moment you sense you made a mistake or the moment you sense God is speaking to you about something, respond quickly.
Respond to God’s Word quickly. Don’t think about, “Should I tithe?” Respond and tithe. Don’t think about “Should I go to church?” Respond quickly.
The quicker you respond, the sooner grace can hit you; the sooner the Anointing can show up at your doorstep; the sooner God can do what He wants to do because He sees that you value what He’s putting in front of you!
This verse doesn’t say: “The righteous crawl” or “The righteous wait.” It says: “The righteous run.”
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
The safest place on earth, in these crazy days, is in the Name of the Lord. Tell God, “I’m in you – when I do right and when I do wrong; when I know what to do and when I don’t know what to do; when I’m afraid or fighting fear – Lord I come to you.”
Run to God, and put your hands up and say, “Lord I come to you.” And you will begin to feel a presence that makes you feel wonderfully safe!
