Billy Burke | – Word of the Week: Psalm 91:7

“A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.” (Psalm 91:7)

We live in a day where people expect to catch bad stuff. The flu may be going around, or a virus. There are statistics all over the news and in magazines about “one out of every four…” and it creates a negative expectancy in people.

You can begin to develop an expectancy that in your lifetime you’ll have cancer, that you’ll need multiple surgeries, or you look at your family history and think, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” There are so many factors that create an expectancy that somewhere down the path of life you’re going to be ambushed or that something bad is going to happen.

This verse says that you and I can avoid that, but we have to take more authority in this area. Raise up a higher standard! We don’t have to catch anything that anyone has, but you have to do more than just believe. It has to come up and out of your mouth as a decree. David was saying, “Bad things may happen over here and it may happen over there, but it’s not coming near me.” It may sound arrogant or prideful, but it’s really your faith talking. There has to be a time when your faith has a voice. Faith isn’t just a feeling or an inward desire. Faith has to be given a voice to speak. And when faith speaks it goes in the face of everything that’s normal and natural. If it sounds arrogant, let it sound arrogant. You don’t mean it to be, but be careful of going with “the group.” Always follow the cloud and not the crowd. Many people may go to church, sing Christian songs and carry a Bible, but their mouth takes them into bad places.

Let your mouth take you into good places! Make a declaration today, “That’s not coming near me.” Raise up a standard that lets the enemy know God is on full-time watch at your house, that there’s blood over your door post, and if he tries to kick down that door he will run right into the Father, Son, Holy Spirit and the Word of God! “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.” Make that your declaration this week, and I believe you will minimize, if not completely eradicate, all the plans of the enemy for you and your family!
