Derek Prince | – Prayers We Should Not Pray 12/4

They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel: but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul. Psalm 106:13-15 KJV

That’s a description of Israel in their relationship with God during the forty years in the wilderness. God had performed mighty miracles on their behalf. He’d redeemed them out of Egypt. He’d made provision for them in all their desert wandering. But Israel had a short memory. They soon forgot what He’d done for them. They didn’t wait for His counsel. They didn’t wait to see what God wanted to do next, but they were guilty of greed and lust. They asked for meat and it says God sent them their request. The record shows that He sent them an abundance of quails that fell all around their camp and they were actually knee-deep in quails.

But note that final commentary which is so tragic: God “gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.” Their bodies were filled, their souls were empty. Let us beware that we do not make the same mistake that we forget God’s goodness, that we do not wait for His counsel and that we ask to satisfy our lusts, and we even receive – but our souls become hungry and bare. Let’s wait for God’s counsel. Let’s not force our will upon God. Sometimes we can do that and God will yield, but it’s to our own great hurt.

  1. Life is simple but we make it so complicated. Obedience to God is a key to success. But with all the world offers, we tend to rely more on the things of this world rather than be content and obey God.

  2. Is it wrong of me to go still see my specialists daily knowing that I should just have faith that God healed me already? I mean I still feel the same everyday, but I think He wants me to let go of me trying to deal with my condition and just leave it in His hands. I even refused taking meds that doctors gave me and just trust God instead.

  3. I really needed this today. Thanks for posting. The only is the music. I literally couldn't concentrate on what the Pastor was saying, so I had to try to read the words. I also had trouble doing that while the music was playing.

  4. It's hard being 'inactive' because we all like to have our own good works. We may be doing something that is part of God's plan – not ours. I've noticed a lot of the big mistakes in the Bible are when people try TOO hard. eg Korah wanting Sanctuary access, Saul sacrificing because Samuel hadnt turned up on time etc.

  5. The Power of the Tongue

People die because of something said. Tongues can be weapons of mass destruction, launching holocausts and wars. Tongues can also be the death of marriages, families, friendships, churches, careers, hopes, understanding, reputations, missionary efforts, and governments.
But people also live because of something said. The tongue can be “a tree of life” (Proverbs 15:4). Tongues reconcile peoples and make peace. “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9). Tongues can make marriages sweet, families strong, and churches healthy. Tongues can give hope to the despairing, advance understanding, and spread the gospel.
So what will come out of your mouth today, death or life? “Sword thrusts” or “healing” (Proverbs 12:18)?

  6. And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation. “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. …

  7. If we have made this mistake… And witnessed Gods miracles and his love… Can we return, I mean… Will he accept us back even though we have seen and went places for God and done spirtual missions for God. Would he still accept us back… I know the answer is obvious but I'm struggling to come to terms with it because of how close I was with God…

  8. I need to listen to this message over and over .
it did touch my heart .
please forgive me Lord Jesus I feel I am often asking you just like ancient Israelite in the wilderness .
    I am truly sorry .
Help me Lord to pray and live the Lord's prayer every moment of my life .
