What Bible translation is this? Anyway, compare this passage to Psalm 106:30-31. Looks like Phineas was justified by his works and faith.
The good pastor has confused "works of the law" with good works. Please read Galations 2 for clarification of the difference. Circumcision is an example of works of law which Paul decries. Feeding the poor, and other works of mercy, are not works of law and are meritorious.
Yep……you're a good Roman Catholic.. for sure!
That is true. Faith alone justifies, but faith is never alone…faith without works is dead. But that does not mean works add to faith..works show that faith is real…Pastor Lassman
I agree its not what we do to get to heaven but its what God did for us. the works are just evidence of Him who lives in us.
Just like how we see an apple tree is an apple tree it bears the fruit of apples.. not we switch it to us the works and how we do the works are considered the fruit of the spirit nurtured and feed by the spirit of God through Jesus Christ.
Without Jesus it is still possible to do good works but in ones will. The only will he have is to allow God to work through ..
(that "not" in the first paragraph is supposed to be a "now")
..us in the works that God provokes us to do.
Well said……..thank you for your comments………Pastor Lassman
Greetings pastor Lassman..what do you say about the Joint declaration of the doctrine of Justification between the Catholic Church and the Lutheran World Federation (of which I do know the Missouri synod is not a member). If you do not accept it in fully, do you think the Catholics are more close than before?!
Is this working?
I could not get this to work so I did a test! OK………..I cannot speak for every Roman Catholic Scholar/Priest…………but concerning the OFFICIAL POSITION: NO. Here is a good book for you to read by Robert Preus: Justification and Rome (1997). You can get it at Concordia Publishing House and type in the title in the search bar….Pastor Lassman
The declaration of 1997 is working yes?! Or what did you mean..?!
Hi….yes you can order the book………….what happened is I could not post at first because I had put in the link to Concordia Publishing house……..don't know why………..anyway………yes you can get the book just fine…
james 2:24
Yes, I am very familiar with this passage but James is not saying that our good works help get us to heaven….He is saying that.our good works show that we have faith which alone gets us to heaven………….Thatis what he says "show me your faith without good works and I will show you my faith by what I do"………so James does not contradict what I said…….faith gets us to heaven…….and good works show that we have faith…..
yes catholics and Lutherans belive the same thing in a nutshell. catholics think its a living faith that gets you into heaven witch includes good deeds but its never good works alone
so if good deeds follow faith what if you don't do good deeds?
To take your question literally…..then faith is dead…..it's not real………..but one has to be clear by "good deeds"..
so by faith you mean a living faith because anybody can say they have faith but people know you have faith because of the good deeds that follow it.(Matthew 7:20) thank you rev.lassman …p.s do you think catholics are saved
Hi….yes if faith is living….real and true…….it produces good works………….but the good works don't add to the salvation that is received completely by faith…..
I agree with salvation by faith but where in the bible dos it say faith "alone"
Romans 3: 27, 28..Romans 4: 1-25, Romans 5: 1Galatians 6: 6-14
Galatians 3: 26
thank you.
Faith forgives fully, fruit follows.
Clearly said. Thanks
Thank you for Law & Gospel!
