John Piper | – God Will Supply All Your Needs

When we live by faith in God’s promise of future grace, it will be very hard for anxiety to survive in our hearts.

In Philippians 4:6, Paul says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” And then in Philippians 4:19 (just 13 verses later), he gives the liberating promise of future grace: “My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

If we live by faith in this promise of future grace, it will be very hard for anxiety to survive. God’s “riches in glory” are inexhaustible. He really means for us not to worry about our future.

We should follow this pattern that Paul lays out for us. We should battle the unbelief of anxiety with the promises of future grace.

When I am anxious about some risky new venture or meeting, I regularly battle unbelief with one of my most often-used promises, Isaiah 41:10.

The day I left America for three years in Germany my father called me long distance and gave me this promise on the telephone. For three years I must have quoted it to myself five hundred times to get me through periods of tremendous stress. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

I have fought anxiety with this promise so many times that when the motor of my mind is in neutral, the hum of the gears is the sound of Isaiah 41:10.

  1. Thanks very much pastor John I use to battle unbelief and anxiety but your preaching had help me live a purposeful life. All thanks to the the Word of God because it is the truth and the truth set us free Amen.

  2. God may not have deadlines but we do.  There are dates and times things are due.  Once the time is past, there is no getting it back.  Companies or people you owe or children or spouses you have to take care of have time frames.  There is, unfortunately, times when if God doesn't answer your prayer, it is too late.  The often heard (but not that encouraging) "Hang on dear brother or sister, the Lord will see you thru!"  Seems easy to be said.  try telling the bank that.  Or the doctor to just hold with that diagnosis, or even worse, your children to just wait not for what they frivolously want, but what they need.

  3. I don't know if this is true or not. Paul was talking specifically to the Phillipians, and I think he was saying "He will provide your ever need" in the sense of things you need for Spiritual growth, otherwise how do we account for the Romans jailing early Christians, slaughtering them, taking care of needs? I'm not saying I know, posing it as a question.

  4. Why add an intrusive musical background? It makes it harder, not easier to focus on the truth. Music is emotive, it is for entertainment, it does not aid analytical thinking.

  5. I had anxeity for a year after jail and recovering from a meth and acid and xanax and weed addiction.. And after recovering from schizophrenia. I had bad anxeity as the way i describe it for hours on end 2 to 12 or more hours at a time.. And i wasnt worried about anything or concerned.. I just had a overwhelming feeling in my chest and body that would paralyze me.. Well its gone now. And I know thats part of Gods grace.

  6. Amen!! Grace! My God will supply my intimacy with my husband. My husband will transform in the name of Jesus! I declare his libido will rise and he will be the husband I always dreamed of. Thank you for your strength. The anxiety I feel is overwhelming. But lord you have come and rest in me. I shall have faith and rebuke all negative thinking. AMEN!

  7. I've been looking for a job for 8 years, I tried everything I know. When you loose your job you loose your honor, your dignity, and your respect. I've applied for more than 8,000 jobs. Even in the natural someone that has applied for 8,000 jobs would get a job. I see the supernatural power but not for me but against me. I pray every day. I know lots of spiritual warfare prayers. I have more than 40 God's promises in my wall. I pray with faith everyday. So many times I prayed with so much faith and had a terrible day.

  8. How about when you pass trough so much anxious an dissipointement that you,re at the point that nothing has value for you or consolate you anymore ..when you feel that everything is lost and nothing for You can give You back what you have lost…material and emotional.

  9. Amen. Behold the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world… ONLY the blood of Jesus defeated sin, satan, and death! HalleluYah! HalleluYah! HalleluYah!

Of first importance, Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, He was buried in a tomb, and on the third day He rose from the dead in accordance with the Scriptures. For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son that whomsoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but that through Him the world might be saved. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. And this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. For without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace. The former days of ignorance God overlooked, but now He commands ALL people everywhere to repent for He has fixed a day upon which He will judge the world in righteousness by a Man whom He has appointed; and of this He has given assurance to ALL by raising Him from the dead. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son will not see life for the wrath of God remains upon him. Repent and believe the Gospel for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Jesus Christ Luke 5:32
