Jon Jorgenson | – Can a Christian LOSE THEIR SALVATION?

Can a Christian lose their salvation? Is “once saved always saved” true? This is a popular debate in the Christian world, because what does the Bible actually say about it? Is everlasting life truly ever lasting, or is it possible to lose our salvation? In this video, I do my best to answer a truly difficult question.

  1. Brother, what can you say about: Revelation 3:5 (NIV)
"… I WILL NEVER BLOT OUT his name from the book of life…"

Doesn't this say that our names CAN BE BLOTTED OUT from the Book of Life? Jesus did not say: "I CAN NEVER BLOT OUT". He said, “I WILL NEVER BLOT OUT”.

  2. If salvation can be lost, it completely negates what Christ did for us on the cross. He died for all sin, however that does not give us the right to go on sinning as we wish. Jesus plain words were “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Our lives as Christians is a marathon not a sprint. There will be bumps in the road and challenges and yes we will fall because we all fall short of the glory of god. That being said feeling remorse or shame for your sin is proof that the Holy Spirit is still alive in you calling you back to do the lords will. If we lose our shame or regret for our sins we must search the fact if we have ever been saved to begin with. Remember satans biggest deception is making us believe our salvation is in question hence leading us to fall further away and eventually “do what thou will” we must constantly be on guard and Identify if our decisions will bring glory to god.

  3. Jesus loves you all and is coming soon! ❤️ if you haven’t repented and turned from sin and accepted Jesus as Savior believing He died and rose again for you, today is perfect and scripture says that today is the day of salvation!!

  4. Can a Christian lose their salvation? TRICK QUESTION! You can not lose what you do not yet have!
The apostles Paul and Peter gave the correct perspective on salvation: it is something we hope for, to be received in the future. Here's Paul:

⚫ "But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ" (Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 5:8,9; Paul did not tell them they had been saved.)

Here's Peter, saying "shall be" saved – in the future:

⚫ "But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they." (Acts 15: 11)

In fact, Jesus tells us we must endure to the end to be saved:

⚫ "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved." (Matthew 10:22)

We shall be saved – saved from ever perishing in death – when we actually receive the promised gift of eternal life at Jesus' return. Paul explained this in 1 Corinthians 15:42-54 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17. Short of receiving the gift of eternal life, we will surely perish in death, losing everything, very much unsaved!

Salvation – eternal life – is a grace promised to us, to be received at Jesus' "revelation" or return:

⚫ "And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life" (1 John 2:25)

⚫ "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;" (1 Peter 1:13)

Justification and salvation are two different things, at different times

In this mortal life we may enter justification; we will not be saved until we receive eternal life at Jesus' return. Paul wrote:

⚫ "Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." (Paul, in Romans 5:9; there's another example of "shall be" saved.)

"By his blood" a person may enter justification; "through him" that person shall be saved. "Through him" means through a relationship with Him. Remember Jesus' words about those who had preached in His name, and had "cast out devils," and had "done many wonderful works"? Jesus warned what he would say to them:

⚫ "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Matthew 7:23)

Not only must we know Him: we must continue to abide in Him:

⚫ "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." (Jesus, in John 15:6)

So, how do we enter justification? Through faith (Ephesians 2:8) that God exists and rewards (Hebrews 11:6) we may then choose to obey and "come to God" (Hebrews 11:6) on His terms: in repentance. For that we receive His promised mercy:

⚫ "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent" (Acts 17:30)

⚫ "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)

So, what is the mercy promised in Proverbs 28:13? Our past sins will be blotted out:

⚫ "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord" (Acts 3:19, NKJV)

A believer – a person who through faith has come to God, confessing and forsaking sin – has been "purged from his old sins" (2 Peter 1:9). Believers have "remission of sins that are past" (Romans 3:25). They have redemption – by grace – from the death penalty they had earned for past sins:

⚫ "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

Believers have been "saved" (re: Ephesians 2:8) from hopelessness. They have not "endured to the end"; they have the "hope of salvation." They are no longer under condemnation, no longer under the death penalty they had earned as the "wages" of their past sins. That redemption was made possible "by his blood" as we saw in Romans 5:9: Jesus made His death available to cover our death penalty.

The Gift of the Holy Spirit

With past sins that separated us from God (Isaiah 59:1,2) erased, and no longer under condemnation, we enter justification, reconciled with God, no longer separated from God. Now we can begin a new life, "times of refreshing" in "the presence of the Lord" as we saw in Acts 3:19:

⚫ "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord" (Acts 3:19, NKJV).

And how are we in "the presence of the Lord"? Through the gift of the holy spirit, given to those who obey and come to God in repentance:

⚫ "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." (Acts 5:32)

⚫ "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38)

Through the holy spirit Jesus guides us out of slavery to sin and into His righteousness, overcoming slavery to sin. This is how we are made ready to receive the gift of eternal life and to inherit the Kingdom of God. Creation is not finished: sons and daughters for the Father's eternal family are being created, right now, through Jesus. He is the potter, we are the clay:

⚫ "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." (Jesus, in Revelation 3:19)

    A relationship with Him

⚫ " . . . yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:11).

⚫ "He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son." (Revelation 21:7)

We can not make the journey along the "narrow way" (Matthew 7:14) that leads to life without His help. And that journey can neither begin nor continue without our repentance, abiding in Him.

Outside of repentance, we receive no mercy and no redemption; we will surely perish in death, paying our own death penalty. And outside of repentance, we can not be made ready to receive the gift of eternal life. For those reasons Jesus warned:

⚫ " . . . except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:5)

Peter makes it clear: we either come to repentance, or we perish:

⚫ "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9).
    Nothing about "faith alone" there!

Jesus told His disciples to preach repentance and remission of sins, not "faith alone," not "faith + nothing = salvation":

⚫ "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." (Luke 24:45-47)

    All those warnings . . .

We have free will, and it is possible for us to return to a life of sin, no longer in repentance and no longer abiding in Him. We've chosen sin, not repentance. In that case, we have "fallen away" from justification, no longer on the "narrow way" that leads to life. Once again we have sins that have not been blotted out. We've returned to condemnation.

That's why the apostles gave all those warnings not to "fall away" and not to "fail of the grace of God." To "give diligence to make your calling and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10,11). To "continue in his goodness" or else be "cut off" (Romans 11:19-22).

⚫ "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it." (Hebrews 4:1)

Here is a list of similar verses:

⚫ 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Paul understood he could possibly return to sin and be a "castaway"

⚫ 2 Peter 2:20-22 Even after knowing Him it is possible to return to a life of sin, and end up worse than before

    ⚫ Hebrews 10:26,27 If we return to a life of sin . . .

⚫ Hebrews 6:4-6 We can "fall away" even after receiving the holy spirit

⚫ Hebrews 12:14,15 We can "fail of the grace of God"

⚫ Revelation 3:5 and 22:19 Our names CAN be blotted out of the book of life

⚫ Hebrews 3:12-14 "if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end"

⚫ Colossians 1:21-23 "If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled"

⚫ Romans 8:13,14 "if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

⚫ Luke 12:45,46 Jesus warned what would happen to servants who returned to sin

⚫ John 15:6 Jesus warned what would happen to those who fail to abide in Him

  5. I would suggest to you that the Bible does not teach eternal salvation, although it sure would be nice if it did. The Bible warns Christians that they can "fall from grace" (Gal. 5:1-5), be "cut off" from salvation (Rom. 11:18-22), have their names removed from the Lamb's Book of Life (Rev. 22:19), by committing certain sins and not repenting of them (cf. Eph. 5: 3-5; 1Cor. 6:9; Gal. 5:19, Rev. 21:6-8). In a chilling reminder of the possibility of losing salvation by separating oneself from Christ, Paul says, "I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should become disqualified." (1 Cor. 9:27). Here are a couple of additional passages that pretty much spell out the fact that one can lose one's salvation:

    Matt: 6:15

    Matt: 19:21-35

    Matt: 10:22-32

    Luke 12:41-46

    1 Cor. 15:1-2

    Colossians 1:22-23

    Hebrews 3:6, 14

    Rev. 2:10, 25-36, 3:1-5

    2 Peter 2:20-22

These passages give a pretty strong witness to the fact that we can fall away and, if we do not repent and come back to Jesus, we could suffer the consequences for all eternity.

  6. Why do you quote scriptures from the apostles from John he was not my apostle and way do quote-scriptures from James he is not my apostle, Paul was my apostle, you are delirious, you better get the gospel of Paul only do you know Paul says that Jesus would judge every man’s heart by my gospel, did you know that Paul says if you teach any other gospel even an angel from heaven you will be slaughtered, did you know that Paul says I got all my information not of Man but of Jesus Christ himself, You taking a seriously subject and Almost trying to make a game out of it with your attitude on YouTube, Did you know that the apostles Jesus and John and the 12, believed the Gentiles were all dogs, did you know that Jesus told his 12 not to teach the Gentiles of his ministry on Earth, did you know that Jesus came for a light sheep of Israel only, for only his Jewish people, did you know Jesus and the apostles were teaching the law,
Did you know that Paul says the law is dead by the crucifixion-of our Lord, I think you better stop teaching about salvation because you’re not good at, no offense but you’re terrible, you cannot mix the two Bibles Paul’s gospel was called the gospel of the grace of God, and Jesus gospel was called the gospel of the kingdom of The apostle Paul said he is our apostles to the Gentiles no other apostle ever said those words, A matter of fact all the other apostles said they did not want to teach or to know any gentile, The apostle John said, only Jews can be saved you Gentiles do not know what you’re talking about, Is that the person that you want to follow or read in your Bible he is definitely not talking to you let me tell you something he is not only not talking to you but he considers you as a gentile a dog to him , remember what I’m saying I could prove it from the gospels that all Jewish people considered the Gentiles as dogs , Matthew says that Jesus die for a few , Referring to the Jewish nation the Jews only, Jesus says I have come only for the lost sheep of Israel, which means he did not come for us Gentiles, Jesus sent the 12 to teach his ministry to Jews only he said to them do not go onto the Gentiles,
The apostle James says faith without works is dead, This is a gospel of the kingdom a old testament gospel, it was a continuation of the Moses law, the New Testament gospel began by Paul From the instructions of Jesus himself, , our apostle Pauls gospels was The gospel of the grace of god that Jesus taught to Paul our apostle , and Jesus claimed him to be our apostle and no one else did Jesus claim to be our apostle, Paul says that he got all information from Jesus to preach the gospel of the grace of God to the Gentiles, Jesus and the apostles on the other hand were teaching the gospel of the kingdom to Jews only In his ministry on earth, and were preaching also the law, Paul and the grace of God there was no law it was defeated by Christ dying on the cross, Paul says if you want to be saved you must Believe in my gospel,Paul says that Jesus would judge every man’s heart by my gospel, not by Matthew Mark Luke and John or Peter or James, Paul says in first Corinthians chapter 15 verses one through four, he teaches us how to be saved by belief, Paul teaches us in Ephesians chapter 2 verse eight and nine that your saved by grace through faith alone not not not not of yourself, For it is a free gift from God to send his love and his son to die for every single sin that we ever committed , Let me ask you something if he died for every single sin that you have committed past present and future then what sin can he accuse you of, you cannot add to what he already did for you and if you think you have to add Good works in following him , or repentance of sin, you better change your heart you are wrong. And not only are you wrong you are not saved, either you trust in the Lord 100% to be saved and if you don’t if you think you need to help him in trusting yourself by helping the Lord I think you’re wrong my friend trusting in the Lord is all you need, and not of yourself, I hope this helps for you to be saved you will find it in first Corinthian’s chapter 15 verses one through four if you believe those verses without Repentance of you trying to doing good works for your salvation , but simply believing in the gospel first Corinthians chapter 15 verses one through four and trust in Jesus finish work, it is a belief not a work salvation that you will be saved, God bless I hope you look up my scriptures if you want me to list my scriptures in what I posted I will I will list every single one of them without hesitant, Thank you so much and I hope you believe by faith through grace alone and not of yourself and then you will enter into the body of Christ , One saved always saved is a reality in a gospel of the grace of God, and no man no enemy no devil ever can take you from the body of Christ, you’ll be saved for eternity don’t listen to no man who tells you , you have to do something before your saved and then you have to do something after your saved it as a gift of God it is not of you. When you stop believing that salvation has nothing to do with you you will live happily gracefully given thanks to Jesus every day and you will start or

  7. If anyone knows how all this salvation stuff works it would be Jesus don't you think? So who should you listen to, the guy in this video, or Jesus Himself? The answer is a no brainer to me. If you’re going to listen to anyone, it should be Jesus. This is Jesus Himself talking directly to you… Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. In Rev 3:5 Jesus says plainly… Overcome, and your name will remain in the book of life. Don't overcome, and He will blot your name out of the book of life. What more proof do you need? (This is Jesus Himself telling you this).

  8. I have a question.
1 Timothy 4:1/" now the spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"
Now, here's my question; wouldn't you first have to be "in the faith', in order to "depart from the faith"?

  9. This is an incorrect conclusion. Sin, even under grace, is death. Romans 6:15-16. The Salvation Bible Commentary explains all of the alleged Once Saved Always Saved proof texts and also shows that the earliest Christians did not believe Once Saved Always Saved. Even after a person has been made holy by the blood, they can lose their salvation (Hebrews 10:26-29). Be careful, because you are teaching error here that WILL cause people to be less serious about sin. God told Adams and Eve they would die. The devil said they would not. Same tricks.

  10. So, I’m confused. I think I accepted Christ as a child. But then, I fell into sexual sin as a teen and ignored God’s voice. At 17, I cried out to God for help and re said the sinners prayer. My life has not been the same.
This burdens me since I’m wondering if I never knew Christ as a child, why did I have such faith? Why did I read the Bible on my own will? Also, do I need to be rebaptized? It’s really stressing me because I have to share my testimony soon to become a member of my church.

  11. The bible makes it very clear if you are living in sin and die without reptance you are goin to hell people need to stop useing that false doctrine of one save always saved an excuse to live in sin because you believe you can't lose your salvation and that is not what the bible teaches

  12. If you could lose this forever gift well then it was not eternal to begin with. And you would have to say God is a liar wouldn’t you. Salvation by grace thru faith, Ephesians 2:8,9, you need to believe on Christ to be saved it’s God‘s message to us via the Scriptures see John 3:15,16,17 and 18 also John 6:40and 47. also Romans 10:8,9,10 and 13. Salvation is a gift that Jesus purchased on the cross, see 1Corinthians 1-4 that describes what he did. Gods required work from us is found in John 6:29, we are justified by what he did , not by trying hard as the folks found out in Matthew 7:21-23, he said he never knew them.. Gods word tells you how he knows you , go read Galatians 4:1-9, .. Now that you know God’s plan, go read the book of First John, and know this salvation is a gift ,by Gods grace secured by those who trust in Christ, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:22-28, Romans 4:25, Romans 5:9, 10, Romans 6;23. Believe on him and tell him, pray to God and let him know you trust him. And remember it’s him who saves us , not our works Romans 3:9,10.

  13. “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
    ‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:6-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  14. It’s sad that still this day you and others still misconstrue the whole fact of once saved always saved……But to your credit you got to it and the end. I have never met one preacher or even person that believed that eternal security was a license to sin.

  15. SAVED ALWAYS?? Wrong.. Totally WRONG. . ANOTHER FALSE TEACHING AND ANOTHER SATANIC DOCTRINE YOU SPREADING HERE. WARNING TO ALL
JESUS SAID OBEY MY COMMANDMENTS. THE BIBLE SAID YOU WILL BE CUT OFF FROM MY BRANCH AND BE THROWN AWAY IN THE FIRE. MATTHEW CH-7

  16. NO NO WAY. Jesus’s words. He said in Mathew 7:19 "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." It is very clear here that even though you are Cristian but you are sinning and not following the commandment you will be cut down. Same as Jesus said in the book of life that he can blot out those who are rebellious against Him. Like in the story of the prodigal son that even the son is with the father if the son chooses to disobey he can still go because of choice. Jesus also said In Mathew 7:23, “And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness". That's why it is impossible that once saved is always saved because God Himself has said it that even a believer will be denied. Also in Mathew 7:21, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter." Jesus also said clearly here that, "Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand (Mathew 7:24). Clearly, Jesus said that a true follower must act not only believe (Believe means with obedience) that he is saved otherwise he will be cut off or be judge. Now for me, the best way is I rather believe in words of sinless Jesus rather than a corrupted doctrine of sinful men saying once saved is always saved. That is not what Jesus teaching and not God's words and character because it is compromising doctrine. In Mat 13:41-42 Jesus said again clearly, "The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This is a Warning for those who spreading false doctrine from satan. Why? because Jesus again said this words “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea and gathering fish of every kind; and when it was filled, they drew it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. For me, the evil doctrine should be cast out from inside the church before it will burn all who believe in that kind of doctrine

  17. Jesus is Lord and God (John 20:28 NIV). He is love and WRATH. Adam was a child of God until he CHOSE to be a sinner same for Eve ( Genesis 3:3 NIV). Adam DID NOT have to eat the fruit Eve gave him (Genesis 3:12 ESV). He could of Listened to The Lord but he CHOSE to disobey the Lord (Genesis 3:17 ESV). Because of the Fall of man we are born sinners but remaining as a sinner is a choice that means continuing to sin is a choice. Jesus didn't die for us to REMAIN as sinners. (1 John 3:4 ESV) says "sin is lawlessness". (Matthew 7:21-23 esv) reveals that not all Christians will enter Heaven many Christians will be cast into Hell because they are workers of lawlessness wich means workers of SIN and ONLY SINNERS are workers of sin wich is lawlessness NOT children of God. Being born of God means your a child of God (1 John 3:9 NIV) if your born of God you won't continue to sin. Only sinners continue to sin and only sinners will be cast into Hell. Heaven will be filled with children of God not sinners. Only Christians who are children of God will enter Heaven not Christians who are sinners. Accept the truth or reject it your choice.

  18. 1 John 2:3-4 KJV
[3] And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. [4] He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

  19. If you doubt your salvation you either doubt your trust in Christ or doubt Jesus words. If you are saved today and lose your salvation tomorrow then it was never everlasting. And no OSAS doesn’t say you should keep on sinning because you can face the fleshly judgements of God. But your saved from Hell. Read John 6:37-40, 6:47, John 10:28-29, Ephesians 1:13-14, Hebrews 13:5, and John 3:16. Stop your works based salvation. At least the Catholics admit they believe a works based salvation, but Protestants say we are “saved by Grace through faith” yet they do not practice that belief. If it’s of Grace it is no longer works!

  20. Jesus says you will know them by their fruit! If there’s no fruit i.e. using grace as a license to sin, that to me proves that their faith was only a mere profession and and a possession. 1 John is a great book to read on the topic of false faith as well as James.

Yep, Judas lost his. Protestantism leads us away from Jesus full salvation with false hopes of Bible alone and onced saved always saved. The sacraments which are the gifts Jesus gave the Apostles before he assended helps us to earn our full salvatuon and be in a state of grace. His body and blood which is his new and everlasting covenant and one true church John 6, those that do not eat of his body have no life. Even Judas ate of the bread but when he deceived Jesus at the end still lost his salvation. So if you too have turned from Jesus you must repent, confess and attempt to sin no more. Ah men.

  22. Both teachings could miss lead people, however the true is that we have eternal life regardless our sin. Why??, because once we become Sons of God the law is not our judge. Hebrews says, the law becomes of no effect, see for your self. *When God speaks of a “new” covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear. Hebrews 8:13 Sin is limited now to the flesh, but Salvation is eternal because is spiritual. The law is temporary while Jesus came, Now we have Jesus and the Sons of Jesus are led by the Spirit (True). Do not let sin determine your salvation, let God tells you the true, read your Bible so you understand.
