Robert Barron | – Super Substantial Bread — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

Friends, this is the first celebration of Corpus Christi—the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ—after the Pew Forum study showing that 70% of Catholics don’t believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Vatican II said that the Eucharist is the source and the summit of the Christian life—so it is clear that something has gone seriously wrong. Therefore, it is with renewed interest and focus that we should look to the readings for today’s feast.

  1. Thank you, Bishop Barron. Your homily always inspire me and makes me think harder about my faith. Like others here, I miss the WOF daily mass. That’s actually my prayer, that one day it will be back. I appreciate every single second you spend on evangelizing, you are truly gifted!

  2. Father Barron the quarantine is not ready to be lifted yet and I am too scared of getting sick to go back to mass, so I ask you if you can please continue to put videos of daily mass on until the pandemic dies down.

  3. Bishop Barron you are an excellent teacher that brings the gospel to life in the 21st century. The only other priest who had this gift (in my 67 years of Catholic life was Father Pat Brennan, Pastor of Holy Family Church, Inverness, Il. (Deceased).
I happened to find you during the Covid-19 crisis while searching for Sunday Mass on line. "Seek and you will find." I will miss celebrating Mass with you but happy to find your sermons on line! God bless you, stay safe and healthy. Marya Taylor

  4. I want to thank you my lord Bishop for this wonderful talk. I had the priviledge of delivering the Readings on Sunday (Corpus Christi) and studying the First Reading and the Gospel for The Thread between the Old and New Testaments, I failed to appreciate the connection. Oh, if I had only seen your talk before Sunday.

I have been aware of the term Transubstaniation from the Latin days before Vatican II and its demise in usage afterwards but as for 'manu ah' and 'super substantiation' I have never heard of it; I'm nearly 69 years: Have I been deaf all that time?

I love the allegorical description of the passage and wonder if St Augustine felt the same way when St Ambrose preached his homilies.

  5. Our Lord Jesus Christ really present in the Eucharist. My dear Bishop please enlighten me, then why do we fear receiving Him on the toungue and prefer the hand as some Bishops suggest as a means of stopping Corona virus transmitted. Really the One who healed lepers and we fear by giving Him reverence and respect He can let us receive the virus!!! My God help my unbelief
May be the devil is not passing through a fissure like St. Pope Paul IV said, but this time he is passing through the main entrance, and we are allowing him. My Dear Bishop help us to close the doors to the evil who is using Corona virus. May God bless you.

  6. You wonder why 70% of Catholics who actually attend the New Mass don’t believe in the True Presence of Christ? It’s because the New Mass obscured the True Presence of Christ Jesus in the Eucharist. There were a handful of cardinals and bishops who warned Pope Paul VI that the Novus Ordo obscures the Faith in the True Presence 50 years ago. No one listened to them…and now we have the statistics.

It’s time the hierarchy humbly admit it was wrong to have conjured up this Protestantized banal on the spot fabrication of the Catholic Mass.

  7. After longing for mass for weeks, I was in tears when receiving the Body of Christ during mass this weekend. LORD, I'm not worthy that YOU should enter under my roof, But only say a word and my soul shall be healed. AMEN

  8. Thank you, Bishop Barron. Since stay-home times make it so valuable to stay in the desert (even after Holy Week), and believe what we can gain from saving own lives and others physically, should also above all, almost instantly after awakening from PANIC, ANXIETY, FEAR,
THEREFORE, FIND THE MATTER OF OBLIGATION, connect with God, and break away from too engrossed, EXCESSIVE and busy daily experiences of violence, unholiness, and confusion of minds, hearts, and souls. And while we could have neglected the duty to a true sustenance of the physical body, we could truly use the logical and scientific outcome of neglect of the physical body, breathed by God to give life as creatures.

God by His POWER of LOVE, WISDOM, AND SOURCE OF ALL, presented Creation, in which realities, implications, and spiritual promise HAVE BEEN SO PROCESSED AS WE VISUALIZE IN OUR COMMUNION WITH GOD IN JESUS CHRIST, so that eventually, we will have realized that there will be so few who could deserve the eternal life in HEAVEN. — From His design and plan, we knew of paradise and how it can be taken away when GOD, THE OWNER AND LOANER OF LIFE, sees that one doesn't deserve (Eve, including the accomplice' OR (Adam) the fallen from temptation to go against the Landlord's rules –SIN. SIN enslaves just as shown of Egypt to the Israelites. YET, God forgives SINS, punishes SINNERS, yet forgives and give chances, as patterns of life of the Israelites with God–PATTERNS OF LIFE UNTIL THE PRESENT TIME IT LOOKS LIKE.

Israelites were gifted with experiences of talking to God thru Moses including the actual dropping of manna from heaven. MANY MORE SINS WERE COMMITTED with patterns of God's forgiveness and giving chances to patterns of kings and kingdom rulings and obligated subjects. SINS BROKE GOD'S DESIGN AND PLAN –AND sins continued to dominate lives, yet God's forgiveness also extended to chosen kings who eventually sinned like David and son Solomon. David, his deep grievance of sin, same way with Solomon's. WEALTH, towering wealth of all kinds were gifted to ancient people until it became causes of revolts and sinful dealings. JESUS CAME as God's gift, God Himself of His Holy Spirit, and PERSONALLY SHOWED WAYS HOW TO BECOME A CHILD OF GOD. Human weaknesses , wickedness and prevailing CARDINAL SINS by human nature, kills the Good and Holy One, due to excessive ENVY: THE GRAVEST SIN OF MEN. Jesus is now HOLY SPIRIT, AFTER HE RESURRECTED. HE IS NOT AROUND ANYMORE TO SHOW US THE RIGHT WAY OF LIFE TO BELONG TO GOD. BUT BEFORE HE DIED, HE LEFT THE WORLD SOMETHING TO ALWAYS REMIND THE WORLD OF HIS PRESENCE: ALWAYS GOING BACK TO HIS WORDS: I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIGHT/LIFE.

Our human spirit is not very sustained and so easily lost of connecting ourselves to JESUS CHRIST'S PRESENCE. This is when we have to include in the FOUNDATION AND BUILDING OF CHURCH, THE HOLY CEREMONIAL WORSHIPPING, AND PERPETUAL COMMEMORATION OF THE LIFE, DEATH, AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST, OBEYING HIS WORDS IN CHURCH MASS: THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU; THIS IS MY B.LOOD ….. JESUS' PRESENCE IS IN THE EUCHARIST, THAT WE RECEIVE AT THE CONCLUSION OF EVERY MASS. THESE ARE VISUALIZED LIFE DESIGN AND PATTERNS THAT ARE LIVED IN THE JUDGMENT OF GOD'S LOVE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS. WE CANNOT HAVE A CHURCH, WITHOUT RECEIVING HIM IN THE EUCHARIST, NO MATTER HOW LIVELY, JOYOUS AND GLORIOUS OUR HYMNS WOULD SOUND. ….

ON THE OTHER HAND, MAY WE KNOW THE ACTUAL PROTESTATIONS AGAINST GOD'S DESIGN AND PLAN AND CORRECT THEM. IF WE EVER LOVE GOD THE FATHER, WE HAVE TO LOVE AND LIVE ALONG WITH HIS DESIGN AND PLAN, INCLUDING VENERATING AND HONORING HIS CHOSEN PARTICIPANTS IN HIS DESIGN AND PLAN, SUCH AS THE CHOSEN VIRGIN MARY, JESUS CHRIST, AND JOSEPH—AS WE ABOVE ALL, RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST IN THE HOLY EUCHARIST.

  9. PRAISE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, GLORY TO GOD! With your WOF movement, CATHOLIC PRIESTS'S EVANGELIZATION IS RESOUNDING worldwide the truth about God — and all enlightening reflection of the patterns of God's will as presented in human lives and relationships with God, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, THROUGH ENDLESS LOVE, WISDOM AND POWER, we finally received Jesus' legacy: the Godly ways of life facing tests and challenges, so that now, guided by Jesus' Life, Death, and Resurrection, our use of God's gifts of Holy Spirit, should be well lived for our sake in attaining God's promise of eternal life in heaven. Thus, may we reflect always that the material wealth of the ancient times that had only caused sinfulness become humbling instruments to work Jesus Christ's mission on earth, rather than LOSING CHANCES to BECOME A PART OF fulfilling His mission, and totally lose HOPE FOR ALL to POSSIBLY BELONG TO GOD'S KINGDOM. (And of course, theologians and all the clergy are better equipped with the language that clarifies the meaning of committing to God's will.)

  10. Thank you for your amazing words this morning. I am 70 and I love the Lord's prayer and Communion. But today you connected them in such an amazing way. Making it through the desert has been very hard for me and God has been there by my side. I wish I could meet you and give you a hug. I feel so blessed this morning. Thanks be to God.

  11. The soul is Your bride, the body Your bridal chamber,
Your guests are the senses and the thoughts.
And if a single body is a wedding feast for You,
how great is Your banquet for the whole Church!
    -St. Ephrem the Syrian

  12. With all due respect, Bishop Barron, your homily begs the question: How could our bishops and priests hide in rectories, locking away from their spiritual children this supersubstantial bread? Our own Catholic history is littered with examples of spiritual fathers who risked much to bring this necessary bread of life to the faithful. It's more difficult to see the Eucharist as true and necessary, supersubstantial food when it is so easy to tell us to be ok with doing without access when there is risk involved in participating in the Body and Blood Our Lord. I love and pray for all priests and bishops, but you have failed to oppose the secular message that this Bread, which is the Source and Summit, is non-essential. We are called to more than that, even in the face of great risk. There were other ways to avoid great risk. Many options were available to act both prudently in the face of health risk and faithfully in living/teaching the real presence in this necessary food for our most difficult journey. My heart longs to hear our bishops repent of this serious error in judgement. You may just convince people of the Real Presence..

  13. In October 1972, a Uruguayan plane crashed in the Andes mountains with about 33 survivors, some badly injured. Following the example of their Savior, some of those dying from their wounds gave permission to the others…who were seriously starving after about 11 days…that they could feast on their dead flesh. Most did so.

Yet we are to believe that Jesus would be stingy and not make such a sacrifice in a similar situation. We, too, are starving for eternal life. I say we eat the Dude. He can take it.

  14. Thank you so much Bishop Barron for such clear explanation of the presence of Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. —How important it is to receive it daily. The only "Real Food" that can sustain us. How I long to receive my Lord as I used to!!

  15. Thank you for your great messages! You really touch our hearts! I believe ,without any doubt that Jesus is present in the Eucharist! I have a dilemma. I have Celiac disease and cannot receive the bread of Jesus. I know the Catholic Church provides a low gluten host, but any gluten is bad for me so I cannot receive. I have been able to receive the precious blood, until recently. I know that will be a long time if it ever comes back. I am just going to say this is very difficult. I am frustrated, sad and heartbroken. Thank you for listening.

  16. I've being a Catholic since I was born and NEVER after I prepared for first communion was I told or heard a sermon by any bishop, priest, or missionary about the body of Christ and its presence in the bread. These are principles that clergy has to talk about often for people to understand the mysteries of our faith, not just assume that people know, or "feel" it
