Robert Barron | – The One True King — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

Friends, Christ is the King of all things. His rule is characterized not by totalitarianism or despotism, but rather by lovingkindness and sacrifice. He constantly reaches out his hands to defend the weak and sick, going to the limits of godforsakenness to bring back those who have wandered. We can cooperate with our King by being his ministers of mercy to the world.

  1. This is one of my favorite High Holy Days. You have truly blessed me with your homily this day. I look forward each year to giving our God the praise and glory he deserved on this day of special recognition. Thank You for help making it so Special!

  2. Ezekiel showed us, long before Jesus' time, a shepherd is coming who will gather us & heal us mistreatment. This King of Kings is appointed to care for us, to heal us. I am a survivor of clergy sexual abuse. I've been terribly abuse by an evil wolf in the robes of a shepherd. Yet I cling to that promise & know I am being healed.

  3. As a catholic I was doing everything opposite for The one true King.
    Feeding the hungry…. okay..
    Water for thirsty… okay..
    clothes for those needed clothes…okay..
    looking after sick… o…kk…a…yyy
Visiting the prisoners… come on… that's the most hardest job for me to do…
Saint Joseph Cafasso Please pray for us to have the courage you had to visit the prisoners.
Saint Mother Teresa Intercede for us to Christ the king to have atleast 1% of your heart to feed the hungry, to water the thirsty, to cloth the needed ones, and especially to look after the sick…
    Christianity is Tough…
Being a catholic is very tough…
    Lord Christ Please save us.
    AVE MARIA

  4. Forgive me O Lord for the many times I missed my duty as your follower to fulfill and to prove that you are my King. Forgive me for the many times I missed to feed the hungry, to give drink those who are in thirst or to give attention to the least of my brethren. Lord Jesus, many times i focus only to your Sacarmental Presence inside the Church but I don't pay much attention to your sacramental presence among the poor and the marginalized. Help me understand more deeply not only at your being with among my neighbors but more so to all of your creation. Amen.

  5. Educational. Thank you for your education. I'm in deep gratitude for learning from a great doctor from my own church as I learn Apologetics and Music Therapy/Binaural Theta therapy for brain injury and art therapy for psychology and teaching in the classroom. God bless you Bishop Barron and Word on Fire Ministry Team.

  6. But, is it enough to pay our taxes, and through them, feed the poor? Is that the answer? Or should we pay the minimum in taxes and give the money directly to the poor ourselves. I believe the latter will save our souls.

  7. Bishop Barron, your words are always so provocative. I would like to put in a thought regarding this wonderful message. That is, the people who were favorable did not realize that what they were doing was gaining them any acclaim. Note the word Blessed. So I really don't think that the idea is we need to consciously make a determined effort to be that kind of person. If that is so, what is the point Matthew is trying to make? I believe that it starts with the 1st Beatitude, Blessed are the poor in spirit. People who have been humbled so much by this world instinctively reach out to God and claim the Mercy of God and like you said a few weeks ago, beggars show other beggars where the food is. It is a knee-jerk reaction to the Mercy and love of God… The poor in spirit will do these things. Once you take away all the clutter in front of the door and open it. You have to see and believe that our world controlled by sin is a horribly destructive place. Then from that lowly humbled position you reach your hand out to others as Christ has done for you.

  8. John 10:10
Evil is not from God but from the devil, who comes to steal, kill, and destroy

    1 Pet 5:8
Be clear minded; be watchful, stay alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

    1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you:
    God is Light,
    and there is absolutely
    no darkness in Him.
    (Light = good
    Dark = evil)

2 Pet. 3:12  anticipating and hastening the coming of the day of God

Rev. 22:20  He who testifies to these things says,
    “Yes, I am coming quickly.”
    Amen. Come, Lord Jesus

Are we Christian because we want to follow God's ways in our daily lives?

Do we live a life that reflects we are Christians,
or do we live no different from the rest of the world?

    10 Commandments:

    1. I am the LORD your God. You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.

    2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
(Not using Jesus name irreverently nor carelessly)

    3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.

    4. Honor your father and your mother.

    5. You shall not kill.

    6. You shall not commit adultery.

    7. You shall not steal.

    8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

    9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
    10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

St. John the Baptist was sent to the People of God to call them to conversion for preparation for Jesus coming.
Not to the Gentiles/ Romans (non-believers)

Jesus also preached to the People of God not to the Gentiles (non-believers).
Jesus proclaimed the warnings/woes because of the hard hearts of the People of God who wouldn't turn back to God.
It was the People of God that cried out for Jesus Crucifixion, not the Romans.
    Only a few,
    the remnant,
remained at the Foot of the Cross with Jesus.
Are we willing to be part of that Remnant?

    Love God above all with all our heart, mind and strength;
And care about and be kind to others, as we are to ourselves

    Read Jesus life daily,
    in the 4 Gospels

    Be kind to one another,
as Jesus was kind while on earth.

repentance, conversion, drawing close to God,
    as part of our
    daily life walk with God.

    1 Cor 6:10
    nor thieves,
    nor the greedy,
    nor drunkards, nor revilers,
nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

    1 Thes 4:3
    For this is the will of God, that you abstain from fornication;

    1 Cor 6:18
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

    Rom 13:13
Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in fornication and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.

    Ephesians 5:4
Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking

    Romans 8:35
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
    Shall tribulation, or
    distress, or persecution, or famine,
or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
37 No, in all these things we are more than
conquerors through Him who loved us.
38 For I am sure that neither
death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our
    Lord

    James 1:13
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,”
for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

    Matt 7:21
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven.

    1 Timothy 2:8
     I desire then that in every place people should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;

    Ephesians 4:26
Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

    Mark 7:21
For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery,

    Romans 1:29
They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,

    Matthew 5:27-28
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
    (Pornography, etc)

    Matthew 15-19
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness

    1 Timothy 1:10
the fornicators, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,

    Galatians 5:19-21
Now the works of the flesh are evident: fornication, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.

    1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his
own body in holiness and honor, not
in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who
    do not know God;

    1 John 1:9
    If we confess our sins,
He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
    and purify us from
    all unrighteousness.

    Come Holy Spirit Come
Fill our Hearts with God's Love and Light

Are we as Christians giving a kind, caring, good example to our families and world?
That with God's Love and Light in our hearts
we may be a light in this very dark and sad world at this time.

May we always keep our focus on Jesus – our Way, Truth, Light and Life

  9. you did really well on this one monsieur Barron..you're not far from the kingdom of heaven..:)….yes its the practical application of Christ's words that make sense..i know its not factual that he said this but st francis was purported to have said..i always preach the gospel and when necessary i use words…but….basically you are saying gods work on earth must be our own…am i hearing you right? i heard it put like this once. Collaborative eschatology..or as you said in tandem…but…..ok we feed the Hungry. We clothed the naked ,we care for the downtrodden ,we visit those in prison…(massive disclaimer…I do NONE of these things..)..but for those that do..may your god bless you…but….where monsieur barron are the miracles?…please dont mention lourdes even the water there is undrinkable..isnt it odd..peter once said to the man disabled..silver and gold i have not but what i have i give you now..in the name of jesus of nazareth..rise and walk..and he did…now…the church seems to be able to say..silver and gold we have…wellll you see where im going with this…im not trolling you..if you think that..go for it… christ would not have been remembered had it not been for his miracles..just my opinion..even the pharasisees said the same… He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
we need miracles….bread is not enough…mr barron…ok you might throw the eucharist at me(not physically i know you wud never do that) but you know what i mean…but to the human eye..its still bread..tastes like bread…smells like bread but with the eyes of faith its christ…you know thats not enough…we are weak …we need the miraclous…im not sure tho maybe its true we will never be satisfied…."If you are the Son of God,' he said, 'throw yourself down. For it is written: ''He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.''"
christ refused all 3 tempations of that spirit of the age..maybe christ had a slight smile on his face when the spirit departed..like…nice try..but im doing it this way..the way of suffering..no short cuts…not cause i like pain..but because i want to feel as they do father…bleed like them..cry like them…die like them…dunno….

  10. the goats are the people who do good works and obey the law out of their own will , the sheep are the people who believe Christ guided by the HOLY Spirit to obey the law of Love ,these are the ones who are the chosen of God

  11. What makes you think that Christ is reigning as King at this present moment in time. Take a look around at the sin in this world, the corruption, the immorality, the total mess of the professing Church. Do you think that if Christ was reigning in righteousness now that all these things would be going on unpunished. Examine your own heart sir. Is it not full of lies and sin which you are covering up with your self righteous false face? Ye must be born again.

  12. I am a convert to the Catholic Church It is wonderful to have God I would describe as my best friend and having the various advantages of being a Christian not least in making sense of our existence and having that pull to be more holy moral and loving However these words of Jesus and his similar words in the last judgement give me hope for the many loving good kind people that I know who have no articulated Christian faith or indeed belief in God They mostly would not have been baptised nor have the concept of mortal sin or of ‘dying in a state of grace’ Nevertheless the words of Jesus seem to be inclusive for these good people to enter heaven . . . and I hope so I think the Catholic Church does hold out hope of salvation for people by having an intrinsic Godly conscience but it is something I would like to see spoken of more often. I am of course not saying that Jesus life death and resurrection aren’t necessary.
Incidentally the protestant Church (where I was brought up) is to me really inconsistent in the way it speaks of ‘faith alone’ but at funerals abandons that dogma as it assumes everyone is going to heaven usually in my experience by somebody speaking of their good works

(I think I said that more articulately and then accidentally scrubbed it Anyway this has always troubled me hence a second attempt)
