Steven Furtick | – How To Shift Your Focus By Faith | Steven Furtick

In this message, originally preached by Pastor Steven Furtick in 2016 he asks a question, “What really matters?” It’s an important question, because what really matters to you determines the direction you go in life. And let’s face it, shifts happen all the time in our lives making it difficult to maintain focus and hope.

Pastor Steven uses Philippians 1 verses 18 through 27 to reveal one of the best ways to stay focused on what really matters — building an eager expectation in Christ. The kind of hope that Paul describes in the Bible is so powerful that Paul had to make up a word in greek to define it — apokaradokia!

We all want to feel like we’re making progress moving in the right direction. This desire is never stronger than in situations where we feel stuck. We can all get paralyzed by frustration and stress, or sometimes we can be really busy doing things that feel like they don’t matter.

But in this message we can learn how to prioritize what really matters and find hope (apokaradokia) in a tight spot. In Philippians 1, Paul is dealing with a shift he didn’t expect as he writes a letter from prison. But he confronts his shift with hope and rather than questioning his own purpose he encourages us in ours. That is the power of apokaradokia! That is the power of this kind of hope.

No matter what shifts have happened in your life today, we believe this message will give you hope to move forward.

  1. I agree and thought this just when watching this video a few minutes ago. If you ask him for help with whatever even the “smallest” of things he will help you if you just look to the book and the sermons. I flip to random passage and it relates to what I am dealing with. We deal with so much and a lot of times it is multiple things at once I just talk to him like my therapist and give it all over to him. Biggest thing keeping faith trusting when you have no idea how to get by but he always comes through I’m so grateful that I found him

  2. I am writing this review after watching couple of your teachings. The Apostle John teaches God must increase, and I must decrease (John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease). The Apostle Paul teaches Jesus Christ and Him crucified. (1 Corinthians 1:23a but we preach Christ crucified). This teaching sounds like a feel good/motivational speech. This is not a TedTalk BTW. Sir, you are speaking behind a pulpit, standing in front of the body of Christ, teaching from the Holy Scriptures. And your teachings contradict what Scripture says. Your giving this notion that it's "Me" getting ahead, it's "Me" looking to my future, it's "Me" overcoming blah blah blah with…… the help of God. From the Scriptures I am reading, it says "I" am wicked, it says "I" am broken, it says "I" am deceitful, it says "I" am a child of wrath. (Ephesians 4:22; Psalm 10:4; Colossians 1:21; Psalm 10:3; Proverbs 2:14; 2 Timothy 3:2-4; Deuteronomy 32:5 etc….) Apart from Christ, I am dead in my trespasses. PERIOD. There is nothing good in "ME". ///// Are you familiar with passages ALL over Scripture that says IF we truly got saved (saving faith) that this life will not be easy? that we will be hated? that we will be persecuted? that we will have to carry our cross everyday? that we may even face death for our faith? that being a disciple of Jesus Christ is a full on commitment? (Matthew 10:22; Mark 13:13; Matthew 6:24; Matthew 7:13-14; 2 Timothy 3:12; John 16:33; Luke 9:23 etc….) //// Do you preach on the Holiness of God? Do you preach on the doctrine of salvation? Do you preach on the essence of God? Do you preach on the character of God? Do you preach on the consequences of not accepting Christ into your life? Do you preach on the doctrine of grace? Do you preach SOUND DOCTRINE??!?! Not this unbiblical "let me make you feel good about yourself crap?" Sir, you are playing with fire. (James 3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.) ///// With your teachings, many people are being misled. You are playing with peoples souls. Repent before Almighty God and preach sound doctrine to your 1.38M subscribers and your live congregation. (Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness)

  4. Philippians 1:18 – 28
    What does it matter?

False or true motives, Christ is spoken
    What matters to you?
It will determine the destination and the direction of your life.

Paul uses Will is used 10 times because he has eager expectations.

Life may be about someone else more than you.

  7. Currently having a break from something I love to do but God told me to set it aside for a bit so I did. IT'S HARD but with God's help, I'm still here. But man, I'm so distracted with doubts and fears about God taking it away from me when in fact, He's just helping me make my faith stronger so I need to undergo here. BUT MAN EARLIER I'M BREAKING BECAUSE I OVERTHINK TOO MUCH AND I'M JUST SCARED but guess what, this sermon came up. I focused on those thoughts that I made myself stuck. Thank you for the message, Pastor Steven. Your sermons really do help me in my faith and life.
