The Bible Project | – New Testament Letters: Literary Context

In the New Testament, there are 21 letters written by early Christian leaders to communities of Jesus’ followers in the ancient Roman world. These letters are rich with theology and guidance for what it means to be a community of Jesus followers, but they can also be dense and hard to understand. In this video we’ll explore the literary style of ancient letter writing and show you how to trace the core ideas from a letter’s beginning all the way to its end.

  1. I wanted to ask you . Do u believe the black people in the usa are the last tribe of Israel. Black has been the most persecuted in history. And there is a huge out burst on George Floyd. I know we all are children of God . I'm black and I've known since I was in 9th grade with konwing history that black people in the us were not from Africa. I do believe we are the chosen people and don't even know it. Help explain the history of the real children of God Israel. Its important to me . Trust jesus yeshua rock the boat. Thank and God bless

  3. The Bible is not and can never be the Urim Thummim! If you say, "O God, I love the Bible ", and you go and buy a big one like an encyclopaedia and you make it your pillow or you press it against your heart then the suitable place for you is Catholic church! You see? Believe the Bible from the first verse to the last verse, from the cover to the other cover but without a prophet, that is nothing! Without the Bible, you can be saved provided that you accept the prophet of your generation! This is why it cannot be the Urim Thummim!

  4. I have a question for Bible project team. You mentioned that Paul hired professional scribe personal to write his thoughts (you meant modern day ghost writers?) I think you are wrong if you meant in that context. He is the scribe and he knows exactly how to articulate his thoughts well. Scribe help required only when you don't know how to articulate your thoughts well. That's not the case with Paul. Do you want to revisit your stand here or give us an explanation through your site's blog post.

  5. This is explained so well. I just learnt how to write a literary essay for english and I could not understand how to do it but, hearing how they wrote these letters, helps me to understand how to write literary essays.

  6. Does not this Eliminate the fact that Paul also was Holy Spirit Inspired?? This wasn't put together around a campfire…Paul was facing persecution every where….try writing a poem or essay while people are trying to kill you….it wasn't written for Paul's own popularity….

  7. Since it was customary in those times for the author to introduce himself, I wonder why the author of Hebrews didn't identify himself. And since Paul customarily identified himself in his letters, why is it commonly thought that Paul probably wrote Hebrews?

  8. ETERNAL GLORY TO THE ONLY HEAVENLY FATHER YAHUAH AND HIS SON YAHUSHA! THE RIGHT NAME OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER IS YAHUAH, AND THE NAME OF HIS SON OF OUR SAVIOR IS YAHUSHA! LORD, GOD ETC … THESE ARE ONLY PAGAN TITLES REPLACED BY REAL HEBREW NAMES!
