The Bible Project | – Overview: Ezra-Nehemiah

Watch our overview video on the prophetic books of Ezra and Nehemiah, which breaks down the literary design of each book’s flow of thought. In these books, many Israelites return to Jerusalem after the exile and face some success alongside many spiritual and moral failures.

  1. @5.55 you seem to put Nehemiah in a different light by claiming "Nehemiah needed to build the walls with armed guards in order to protect them"…but it's not just what you say, it's the tone that which you say it, it sounds very disbelieving and followed by the …"WE keep wondering…?

  2. After reading the comments, it shows even further that the books itself should also be read and not just watch the video. I adore Bible Project and take it's interpretation as a viewpoint. Before each book I read, I watch their video. Then after I read the book, I watch the video as a recap. Things that stand out that I am still lost on, I research. It encourages me to find out more. Thank you Bible Project for your wonderful works. May you continue to be blessed.

  3. Ezra 4:1 KJV
    Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the Lord God of Israel;

Nowhere in that verse does it mention “grandchildren”. They were adversaries and not children of YAH! Stop twisting the truth.

  4. Bible Project group, you have great art work. I don't know what you grew up learning about the Bible, but your interpretation of the Bible is contrary at times. I am so sorry that whatever happened for you to begrudge the Word of God transpired, but please don't do that anymore. You all are wonderful people, but sometimes, we can get hurt in the church and misinterpret the Word. You are in my prayers and I think you do awesome work a lot of times. Thank you for trying to help us learn more in Jesus' name.

  5. Ezra 4:1 (NIV )calls them enemies of Judah and Benjamin and NOT the grandchildren of the exiles as part 2.49 of the video puts it..please review this content or maybe address why you think they were grandchildren of the exiles.Thank you

"'We' do not take responsibility for decisions taken by the veiwer based solely on the information provided in this virtual application.""'We' do not take responsibility for decisions taken by the veiwer based solely on the information provided in this video."This is a work of fiction and nonfiction. 7. I'd just like to point out that the people in the land in Ezra 4 were most likely not of Jewish descent. Notice what had happened in Jeremiah 43:5-7… [the leaders] took all the remnant of Judah who had returned to dwell in the land of Judah, from all nations where they had been driven –
men, women, children, the king's daughters, and every person whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the son of Neriah. So they went to the land of Egypt, for they did not obey the voice of the LORD… (NKJV)

Linking Ezra 4:2 with 2 Kings 17, it seems these people are the foreigners brought in by the king of Assyria who had to be taught about the God of the land. I think Russel Grigsby mentions other things so I won't re-hash all that. =P

Thanks for the work that y'all do! May we all grow in the grace & knowledge of Christ =)

  8. Thanks for this and all previous videos. I didn't think Ezra could be doing right by the forced annulment of marriages by stipulations written in Deuteronomy because it was out of context with the times and situation. Israel were commanded not to give their daughters in marriage to 7 nations the Canaanites, Amorites, Girgashites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Deuteronomy 7:1. Ezra doesn't appear to have considered this in his compulsory edict.

  9. Great insight here! Look how Persia (Iran) helped the Israelites!
Then the failures of fallen humanity waiting for the Messiah.
This civilization had disintegrated because it has rejected the Messiah and chosen instead what God hates, breaking the covenants of Abraham and Moses. And Israel fights neverending wars etc

  10. the people who destroyed jerusalem during thus tome…same destruction going on today..But God
has given Israel the ability, i.e., technology to blow bombs up IN THE SKY
Otherwise..the people who are trying to eliminate these people DECLARE PUBLICLY THEY WANT TO DESTROY ALL OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH..
So, Nehemiah did not provoke unjustly..
    by building a wall!!!!
The people who destroyed are destroyers of everything..even their own communities.

  11. WARNING!! WARNING!! HEAR O CHILDREN OF GOD! O CHILDREN OF THE GOD OF ISRAEL, ABRAHAM, ISAAC, AND JACOB!! LIFT UP YOUR EARS! SHEMA ME OH BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!

“Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet; Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭58:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

While I was reading the Bible, GOD spoke to me and showed me this verse. And HE wants me to warn Christians. About their walk with GOD. Take your walk with GOD seriously, for the spiritual battle is much more of the reality, than this world is. This world is full of demonic and evil doings.

Read your Bible and meditate on GOD’s words. Study and ask for guidance and protection from the GOD ALMIGHTY! GODBLESS AND SHALOM

Repent! And turn away from your sins! FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS AT HAND! TURN AWAY FROM YOUR SINS AND COME BACK TO YOUR FIRST LOVE, OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST!!

  12. Could these prophets be acting out because of their religious obligations? Dame strange to me that so many scripture writers explain what to expect, however these men appear to go against GODS WORDS…What do you guys think????
