We haven’t shown any “behind the scenes” footage or interviews with Jonathan Roumie, the actor who plays Jesus in The Chosen. We wanted to protect from distraction the experience of watching Jesus in the show, and we recognize it’s a delicate issue for many viewers.

But recently our director Dallas sat down with Jonathan for an exclusive conversation that digs deep into the experience and pressure of portraying Jesus for a worldwide show.

About The Author

The Chosen WHY A TV SERIES ABOUT JESUS? We've been making movies for some of the biggest studios in Hollywood for 20 years. But a subject this important shouldn't be entrusted to Hollywood. It needs to be made by us. Isaiah 43:19 says, "Behold, I am doing a new thing..." The Chosen is a new thing. * How it was financed is new: We're the #1 highest crowd-funded media project of all time -- over $10 million from over 19,000 people. * The content is new: We're the first-ever multi-season show about the life of Christ. * The way to watch it is new: We're the first show to have our own app that connects directly to your streaming devices. No subscription needed. Just search "The Chosen" where you get apps and download to your phone. * How it's reaching the world is new: The show is free, but by "paying it forward," you help ensure people around the world can see it -- we're currently in every country. Welcome to a new thing!

  1. Jonathan and Dallas, we are praying for you and the whole cast and crew. Jonathan, your portrayal seems to catch a much broader spectrum of Jesus’ personality (for want of a better word) than has been shown onscreen to date. There is playfulness, earnestness, joy, disappointment, and then, just when it is needed, you reach for and touch the most precious and difficult thing to portray: the HOLINESS of Jesus. You will be challenged in upcoming episodes to capture the anger of Yeshua, too. Only Robert Powell in JESUS OF NAZARETH has portrayed the Lord’s holiness and intensity as well. You may learn from that performance, too. Ultimately, however, if you continue to ask the Lord himself how to speak His words, He will not let you down. Shalom!

  2. WOW WOW WOW Johnathan to hear you say you feel out of your element portraying Jesus blows my mind because you nailed it! God Bless You & Continue Guiding You touching lives around the World

  3. Out of every portrayal of Yeshua I've seen so far, this one exudes the best the immense love that He has for us. I cannot express how much it moves me, and reduces me to tears every time I see a clip. How I wish I lived at that time so I can be around Him, to serve Him, and learn at His feet…. THANK YOU for portraying so beautifully the LORD's incredible journey of teaching, healing, and ultimately of sacrificing Himself for us!!!

  4. It would be brilliant if this was a joint effort with the Orthodox Christian Church. They possess the full continuity of history and holy tradition from the church fathers (the apostles of Christ) to the present day, along with many relics not known to the Protestant Church.

  5. "Have you thought about the Crucifixion?"… Too deep. How do you go about a scene that heavy? May God help him through that portion. May his life be transformed and may it be a total breakthrough for the world to experience. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

  6. I must tell this. I'm in the middle of watching the full interview on the app. I got a direction for the situation I am in right now. When Dallas asks about Jonathan's walk with Christ, and he shares about trying to control things in his life/work, doing all that he could but nothing working out, and ultimately he surrenders. That's exactly where I am today. I have been trying hard doing all things about my job and career and nothing has been working out. Been battling anxiety, wanting to fully trust God, do it for a day and again turn back, but tonight am going to fully surrender. I could exactly resonate to what Jonathan shared. And am going to do what he did. Am amazed truly the dimensions Chosen is touching. God bless you Dallas, your family and your entire team. BTW, God also spoke to me through your story earlier, about the fish and his responsibility to multiply.

  7. I have thought about the crucifixion of This Jesus, and I already know it will be possibly unbearable to watch. I like many find this characterization of Jesus to be perfect. I would walk with this Jesus through fire.

  8. Interesting that you end this with "have you thought about the crucifixion" — because that is what has been occupying my thoughts today — how much The Chosen has increased my sense of genuine agony for Jesus and loss for his followers — starting with Jesus saying that someone would betray him through to His being on the cross — having seen them all made more real. The genuineness of the portrayals has made all aspects of this Easter season more vivid.

  9. i saw you vedio Sir. Your vedio titled “I’m in a tough spot” i cannot wait for the day you celebrate your testimony with us. God will prove himself pleased to turn this for his glory.

  10. For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground. He hath no form nor comeliness, and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.

Why are you so desirable? Yet why if you are desirable. Why are you play a part to a person that isn't?

  11. Jonathan I understand where you're coming from but you played such a good job. The first time I saw you come on screen I cried so much. I felt your love as Jesus. you give such good portrayal and I also like you made Jesus have a sense of humor you are amazing don't doubt yourself God is with you
