Lyrics:
How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke Your name into the night

Then through the darkness, Your loving-kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame

The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The King of kings calls me His own
Beautiful Savior, I’m Yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me

Jesus, Yours is the victory, whoa!
Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Oh God, You are my living hope

  1. Would have been an amazing song if not for the Semi-Pelagianism. I like Phil alot, but I critique him on the theology of this song. "In deserpation, I turn to heaven"… we do not have the ability to do that outside of God's grace. God calls us….we don't call out to God. Guitar has an amazing tone!

  2. Praise the one who set me free! ❤
    1st Corinthians 15:54-57
"When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
Death is swallowed up in victory
O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
    Thank you Jesus ❤

  3. Some wacky chords here. The song is in the key of Eb, he's playing in the Key of E with his guitar tuned a half step down…. but I can't figure out those into chords even if transposing to regular E. Anybody help me out on those intro chords?!

  4. Seen a lot of comments on his singing voice. Well he had to get surgery on his vocal cords, I think in 2014, where he couldn't talk for like 2 months. Made him more humble than he already was and praises Jesus everyday for his gift to sing the Gospel to all. He's an inspiration to us all 🙂

  5. God willing I will get to this man in concert one day, ohhh we going to Praise and Worship that sweet Name Jesus!!!!!! Glory Jesus!!!! Celebrating 11/11/14 the day when death was destroyed and Freedom was given to me, I’m a witness Jesus will set you freee, receive and believe, stand on Jesus as your rock as if everything else is sinking sand!!!

  6. wow. talk about bearing your soul. truly incredible. what a blessing to run across this. Thank you(!!!!) Phil Wickham for letting us share in your worship experience. It's hard enough to play the guitar, and to be able to play AND sing a song, but to play and sing with the "joyful abandon" that you do …Just amazing. (!) Thanks!

  7. The greatest that ever lived; He had no servants, yet they called Him Master. He had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher. He had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. He had no army, yet Kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He had no crime, yet they crucified Him. He had no need, yet He forgave them as they mocked. He loves you so much He took the punishment of your sin. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today. His name is Jesus Christ and He is the Saviour of the world.
