Robert Barron | – God’s Gift for You — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

Friends, from Genesis to Revelation, Scripture begins and ends on the principle of the primacy of grace. In the Christian religion, there is no such thing as “conditional love.” Rather, God gives freely, and it is our task to accept it. “All who are thirsty, come to the water!” And what is the water, but that which symbolizes divine life and ultimate joy?

  1. Powerful! I was hoping you would continue to help those who have "left the house" (mortal sin) get back in, though as Catholics we would know that to be through confession. Still, for non-Catholics, who are 'outside the house" and wondering if they are cut off from God's grace because of their sins, they might need help in this area.

  2. Hi Bishop Barron. We spoke a while back on a topic and it was illuminating.. My degrees are in Psychology.. I have a masters in Clinical Psychology, and Developmental Psychology.. In these times we have the unknown variable of this virus, economic collapse, and a president that must be voted out in three months.. I don't think Trump wants to be Putin, I think he wants to be Hitler.. Nothing will improve as long as he is in the Oval office, 'in fact, it will only get much worse if he were re-elected.. Whoever he has in his administration left with some common sense will be fired, and those who stay will have to agree with him if he tells them the sky is yellow. We've never been in this kind of situation before.. This is what I know for sure.. Trump is a textbook psychopath. A pathological liar who is a manipulative con man.. He possesses the cognitive abilities of a 5th grader, and an emotional constitution of an 8 year old.. Nothing genuinely good can come of this.. He's never opened up a Bible in his life.. I pray to God we stop this dangerous man in November..

  3. I grew up a catholic but it felt like a political party. When God showed me love within me I realized that worship to me is not a twenty minute period during a mass or church service. It's a relationship that is going on inside of me affecting my behavior with my neighbor as well as myself. It's being in love with God in Jesus. I am a catholic but not a political party.

  4. First we should have faith in Jesus. Virtue and Righteousness gets Grace from God. It is not a right, but it is gift from God for righteousness. A person who is in Mortal Sin will not get Grace, as there is no Holy Spirit living in him, because he has driven Holy Spirit out. His soul is dead, that is where the Holy Spirit lives.
Dont ever think Grace is a right, it is gift given by God to the person living in righteousness.

  5. Thank you Bishop. Would you speak one day on 'mortal sin' and give us a better understanding of it in terms of our struggle to stay 'in the house' if you see this? – I struggle and am in fear sometimes of a 'binary' type understanding, especially of mortal sin and truly trying to overcome it, and recognise and be honest with myself about it. I recently heard an alternate understanding of struggle, reconciliation and that all too human condition in light of St. Paul's letter to the Corinthians about struggling with a thorn….I would love to hear your thoughts some time on this. I often think the Church through the Holy Spirit says the Truth that there is a bar, a Spiritual Truth – some recognise they fall short and struggle…..some try to lower the bar to meet them ( not a good idea :), and others are saints at the end of their journey. However, is there a subtlety to sitting 'in the house' and also struggling with a thorn..? Or is that luke warm? …Sometimes it can be refreshing to count on His mercy and Grace – other times it's terrifying of His Narrow path. I'm like a wild toddler, I keep falling in the bushes on my way, knees scraped and eyes watering with both love and fear, I realise I don't always do my best….any words of wisdom you might consider in a future clip would be much appreciated. God bless.

  6. I am a guitarist in our parish and while I am listing on the first reading, I realized the same thing so immediately after the mass I asked the Priest if I can make a confession. Thank God I am free!! Thank you Bishop Barron, I happy to be a Catholic.

  7. This homily has to be the BEST I have heard about God’s unmerited grace and how we can allow it to change our lives. I shared the link with many friends. Thank you so much for the wisdom of the Holy Spirit working through you. Your homilies and prayerful masses have kept me going during this difficult time.
