Robert Barron | – Most Influential Figure of Vatican II Besides Those at the Council? — Bishop Barron on Vatican II

Friends, in this video I describe the theologian who most influenced Vatican II, besides those in attendance at the council. His writings on the development of doctrine, his focus on history, and his missionary impulse were all important contributions to the Church’s teaching. Watch the video for more.

  1. I appreciate how Barron has turned a virtual inquest against him at a fanatical level, into an opportunity to correct and teach the faithful. As is proper for a bishop to do! Turning vitriol into love. And ignorance into understanding. Wonderful!

  2. Thank You, Bishop

Tradition has its own advantage , Vatican II opened doors of church to Laity , gave more participation…

But some Bishops also tries to liberalise more than the Vatican II intended ,

Respect for Altar is not given or shown nowdays….
Bishops are now afraid of so called political correctness ,
and fails to defend catholic faith..

Bishops are more inclined to suspend the priests who shows courage to address issues…

  3. I agree that Vatican II addresses the historical problem some have with the Catholic faith and does so from the perspective of Newman. I definitely think this is underappreciated. The fact that the Catholic Church today in her practices, and to a superficial vision, in her theology, looks so different from the Church of the New Testament, and different again from the Church of the Fathers and different again from the Church of the Middle Ages is major argument of Protestants against it all being the same (one, holy, catholic and apostolic) Church. To his great genius and insight, Newman offers a compelling case for the development of doctrine that argues for a divinely founded unity throughout all this variation, and so undercuts Protestants arguments against Roman Catholicism. To the extent Vatican II takes up this line of reasoning it is especially anti- protestant even while noting our commonalities with our Separated Brethren. Thank you Bp. Barron for highlighting the Council and its positive core.

  4. I love John Henry Newmans poem about the 'journey' of death and his understanding of purgatory is so eye opening & so well nuanced, not black and white, but with shades. I sat by the side of both my parents as they passed away and this poem wasn't far from my mind at that time. 'The dream of Gerontius' – beautiful!

  5. Hello your Excellency, dearest brother! I also thought of St Pierre Julian Eymard, canonized in the middle of the council, whom St John XXIII called, "the Perfect Adorer" of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. As you know he founded the Blessed Sacrament Fathers. Just by gleaning over his writings, one immediately gets the sense that these are thoughts borne in the presence of Christ in the Tabernacle, the Lord in his heart. 🙂 Wish you well your Excellency. Thank-you for the continual spiritual sustenance you allow God to provide through you for his people. Bless us.

  6. As always thank you for providing a voice of reason and fraternal love in your correction to all the arm-chair theologians that are constantly challenging and discouraging our vunerable faithful.

  7. Honorable Bishop Barron,
A new movie based on the book “the Secret”, and it’s horrible ideologies is set to hit several different online streaming services, and enter millions of homes on July 31.
I feel this film comes at a time when the world is searching for hope, and will likely surrender in all the wrong places.
I’m reaching out because I believe if anyone can speak to the gravity of this situation, it is you.
