when was the book of Revelation was written? There are those who say around AD 90's, however, such a claim is based entirely upon one single statement written by a man who had very questionable ideas regarding dates and times to begin with. This man felt Jesus died at over fifty years of age instead of 33. His name is Irenaeus who lived from AD 120 to 202. He made statements that puts the writing of Revelation around AD 96, He repeated this in his writtings title "Against Heresies", dated around AD 175–180. He claimed Polycarp, a student of John the Revelator (the writter of Revelation), related this to him in his youth
Long after the destruction of the temple in AD-70— it seems incredible that John would make no mention whatsoever of the most apocalyptic event in Jewish history—the demolition of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple at the hands of Titus.
In the Gospels we have, Jesus leaving the temple when his disciples call his attention to its buildings. As they gaze upon its massive stones and magnificent buildings, Jesus utters the unthinkable: “I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down” (Matthew 24:2; Mark 13:2; Luke 21:6). You would think there would be a reference to this in the book of Revelation if it already have happen.
In Revelation 11 John says, “I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, ‘Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there. But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for 42 months’”. In context, Jesus has sent his angel “to show his servants what must soon take place.” Thus, the prophecy concerns a future event, not one that had tooken place twenty-five years earlier.
(Note the fanal revolt in Jerusalem was from AD 66 to AD 70, about 42 months)
Another point is that John wrote Revelation to a specific group of churches in Asia (Revelation 1:4). The importance of this statement cannot be overlooked (even though it has been by many scholars). There is only one small window of time in which there were only seven churches in Asia. The early AD 60's. The apostle Paul established nine churches in that area, but only seven were addressed in Revelation. The reason for this is that the cities of Colosse, Hierapolis, and Laodicea, were all destroyed by an earthquake around AD 61. Laodicea was rebuilt soon afterwards, but the other two cities were not. This left only seven churches in Asia during the five years just prior to the beginning of the Roman/Jewish war.
Of particular importance is the message to the church of Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13). In verse's 10 and 11, Christ told John to inform them that an "hour of temptation" was "about to come upon all the world," i.e., the Roman Empire. Christ then told them that He was coming quickly and that they should hold fast. The reason this is important (besides the fact that this was directed to an actual church in the first century) is that the first persecution of Christians took place under Nero Caesar in AD 64. Therefore, Revelation must have been written before that time.
Our Rabbis taught: During the last forty years before the destruction of the Temple the lot [‘For the Lord’] did not come up in the right hand; nor did the crimson-coloured strap become white; nor did the westernmost light shine; and the doors of the Hekal would open by themselves, until R. Johanan b. This epilogue at the conclusion of the book corresponds with the prologue at the commencement, and exemplifies the structural symmetry of the composition. Seven times over it is declared, in one form or another, that all is on the point of being accomplished. Come, Lord Jesus.’ All these are indications, which cannot be misunderstood, that the predictions contained in the Apocalypse were not to be slowly evolved as ages roll on, BUT WERE ON THE EVE OF ALMOST INSTANT ACCOMPLISHMENT. The whole prophecy, from the first to last, relates to the immediate future, with the solitary exception of the six verses of chap. xx. 5-10. Nineteen-twentieths of the Apocalypse, we might almost say ninetynine hundredths, belong, according to its own showing, to the very days then present, the closing days of the Jewish age. The coming of the Lord is its grand theme: with this it opens, with this it closes, and from beginning to end this event is contemplated as just about to take place. Whatever else may be dark or doubtful, this at least is clear and certain. The interpreter who does not apprehend and hold fast this guiding principle is incapable of understanding the words of this prophecy, and will infallibly lose himself and bewilder others in a labyrinth of conjecture and vain speculation.
Four times in scripture was the EXACT length of captivity of the Jews in Babylon clearly defined, proving God word to be accurate and his prophets true. Christians have become too polite, too fearful of those in the pulpits, too afraid to question self styled prophecy experts. Hal's claim that people will marry and repopulate the earth in the "millennium" is just not true.
Jesus completely refuted the pharisaic idea that there is marriage in the afterlife . He said those who are saved will be equal to the angels. And there is nothing in Revelation chapter 20 either , that even hints at marriage. One more FAIL.
