Robert Barron | – Faith When You’re Frustrated with God — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

Friends, in our Gospel today, we find two stories tensely intertwined together—and both contain great suffering and great healing. Through this passage, we are reminded that even in the midst of confusion and frustration with God, we are called to trust in the Lord and his timing.

  1. I broke down the minute I heard, “Honey, get up.” I’ve been suffering from spiritual dryness for the last five years now, and hearing that from Bishop Barron feels like God asking my dormant spirit to rise from the dead. I didn’t know words like these could have such a lasting impact.

  2. Hey Bishop Barron,

I didn't enjoy your homily, that would be an understatement.
I cherished it, it moved me to tears. Trust, trust, trust. That's the key to true happiness and peace that this world can't give.
    God bless you!

  3. My favorite part of this story is the last line, where Jesus look around at the astonished onlookers and says: someone get this girl something to eat! Yes, God heals. Yes, God saves. But He also cares about the smallest things, our base human needs. How awesome is that? ❤️

  4. THROUGH HIM ALL THINGS WERE MADE. Yet he asks: "Who touched me?" AND WHEN HE CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN, he humbled himself even further by allowing "that power went out from him" through something material, the hem of his garment, healing her whose touch "SAVED" her (Mark 5). Newman's SACRAMENTAL PRINCIPLE ?

  5. If only Christ had answered my fears as did Jarius' that day on the street
"My child is dying; my baby's life is fading! Please hurry with me back to her bed!"

Jesus paused,.looked with love at the father on ground, prostate; pleading at His feet'
then turning to His disciples and at the crowd pressed 'round Him, "Who touched my clothes?" He said

If only Christ's compassion reached down to me as I prayed "LORD have mercy! My son is dying!"
Daughter, Thy faith has healed thee Jesus told the woman as she fell grateful, trembling and weeping

But Jarius heart nearly stopped in his chest as he was told his poor daughter was dead. "it's no use trying"
Oh my God..NO please say it ain't so. She is the joy of my soul.. "be not afraid," He explained, thy child is sleeping

If only my faith had been so strong that it could be felt through the crowd of all my doubt and sin
to beg for mercy and grace from the Lord God above and bring love and healing to my only son

so I can understand how powerful and complete the faith that poor woman mustered up from within
but after they lowered his casket in the ground I still struggle and cry out: what is this victory I've won

And blessed Darius' joy was complete when his daughter awoke and rose from her bed. Oh what a great relief!
But no matter how oft I denied it my dear Joshua is dead and buried ..How can he awake from this sleep?

"Why are ye so fearful? how is it ye have no faith? Go in peace and be whole…Be not afraid, only believe."
oh LORD I believe, please help my unbelief! Thy will be done! My faith in Thy son "why make ye this ado, and weep?"

oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy

    w/love

  6. I think the Catholic Church fails many of its followers by not teaching believers how to walk with God. It wasnt until I was drawn away from the church that i heard about the wilderness experince and the purpose of it. The trial of Job. How God makes promises which take years to come to pass such as those made to Abraham, David, Joseph. Many of these people failed miserably had calamity and frustration but understanding that far from being abnormal, these are in fact intergral to your journey and sometimes we cant feel God at all. I didnt know this so when the initial feeling of being born again dried up i had nothing to fall back on and thus was able to be attacked. I think the Catholic Church should do more Bible studies.

"My people perish due to a lack of knowledge"

"Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God"

  7. Dear Staff of Bishop Baron: It you can get this message to the Bishop I would appreciate it greatly:
I simply want to tell the Bishop that having his videos of his homilies on " Word of Fire" makes so much more sense, because when I listened on Word on Fire I was very disappointed because I felt I was only receiving half of the power of his Biblical message presentation. Half of the power of his message and lessons is lost when only audio is given. It is better than nothing, however, his visual presentation is so much more powerful. This is why television is so powerful. I believe Jesus said, " By the fruits (actions) you shall know them.) or seeing is believing. Right now we have to go to youtube for the visual, and today I found Microsoft Edge had his homily blocked. How sad that your media experts can't see this basic fact. Paul Jubb Sacramento, CA

  8. God is a formless ,also a What as well as a Who ,as I looked back at all of you through a portal in the light, while I look upon the Earth. The light / God keeps all our memories for us. We are all a part of that endless ocean of light at all times, yet separate from it in consciousness.. this is called a fractal, separate, but one with the whole. ,and Given there is no other like God as spoken of in the Bible, God has taken a portion of its consciousness, God made into all of us, .. as we all become the members of a New consciousness, Suspended …inside Gods being. God will call a bride, separate from Gods consciousness… God longs for another like its being, but it doesn't exist – , Gotomy youtube about to read more.

  9. Trust Him.
    Trust Him.
    Trust Him.

Easy to say, to tell, or claim but remains a struggle when faith is challenged.

Yeah, can relate to Jairus. He was in intense urgency, then as they were walking surrounded by crowds, Jesus talked to the hemorrhagic woman, as if He's taking a "sweet time." This is where faith sets in in unfavorable scenario.

Thank you for further and deeper reflections, Bishop Barron.
Hope and pray to attend Mass presided by you. How I wish our local priests read and/or listen to you before presiding theirs.

  10. Your sermon brings to life two dramatic stories, and I quote you, “with typical Biblical economy of expression.” You made these scenes step into the third dimension such that I’ll always remember the scenes and the message. What an art to synthesize all of this in 13:09 minutes! Thank you so much, Bishop Barron.

  11. The story gives a tantalising glimpse into how disciples experienced Jesus' divine/human nature. On the one hand, he is so fully aware of his divine healing power that he confidently takes his time to reach Jairus's house and and deploys it to raise the daughter from the dead. It is as if he has absolute foreknowledge of how things will play out. On the other hand, his divine nature apparently does not inform him of the identity of the one who touched him. He seems to be bristling with a divine healing power that he cannot fully control. It spontaneously flows out through his garment when the lady merely touches its hem.
